From Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the Lunar New Year begins. It’s a two- week-long celebration and serves a part of cultural learning opportunity.
As 2025 marks the year of snake in Chinese zodiac, it’s an especially exciting time to celebrate! The snake is a part of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese calendar, which has been used as a way of dating years for centuries. It also a symbol of intelligence and wisdom. Incorporating the symbolism of the snake into our CM1 English EMILE programs can be a fun way to learn « Symmetry ».
Children’s task is to create their own snakes in a symmetrical way. It seems to be easy, but there’s a slightly challenge for them.
Some of them solved their problems by using mirrors.
Some of them duplicated their snakes on the window.
Besides snake drawings, our problem-solvers also have learned a Chinese character « Spring », which brings a whole-new start, prosperities and good fortune, for paper cutting in a symmetrical way.
Yes, we MADE it!
Happy Snake Year! Bonne Année du Serpent!
